Alexis Elliot

Alexis Elliot is the inventor of EduPair, formerly known as Backpack Buddy, which is an innovative website that will allow students all over the world to collaborate on various subject matters. Alexis came up with the idea when she was 13 on a recent trip to Ghana. After visiting schools in classes, Alexis saw how difficult it was for students in developing countries to get an education and strived to create a platform for students all over the word to have the same academic opportunities.

Alexis recently presented her idea to Warren Buffett and a panel of judges after being selected as one of five finalists in the nationwide Grow Your Own Business Challenge sponsored by Warren Buffett.  She is currently working on her business idea and strives to see this business model grow.

Alexis also took place in Startup Weekend, a 54-hour event at NYU geared towards high school students coming up with a business idea, working on it throughout the weekend with various mentors and coaches, and pitching to the judges in a competition. She and three other entrepreneurs pitched their idea, Lemonade Stand, an app that would allow teen entrepreneurs to connect with funders so that they could build on their startup and her team placed second for the entire weekend. Her experience at an Independent Youth retreat greatly contributed to the knowledge and ideas that she brought to the table during Startup Weekend.

Alexis is a rising freshman at the Pingry School in Basking Ridge, NJ and enjoys playing soccer, basketball, and running track. She loves doing drama and theater and excels in film.  She also has been a part of the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Program for the past 5 years and likes to take their many course offerings. Some of her favorite hobbies are traveling, running her neighborhood dog walking company, and community service. Alexis is passionate about giving back in her community and always looks for ways in which she can give back to make a positive impact on her community.
